Also in the spare room, the city skyline camera is located on the window sill

Axis 2100

This is an Axis 2100, a network camera similar to the one in the living room. It is connected directly to the network via the Billion router. I had to shroud the front of the camera in cardboard to prevent indoor lighting at night from flooding the external image (the camera is very sensitive).

Software

The static webcam images on the website are generated every minute by a script which extracts a picture from each of the cameras (using wget), adds temperature and date labels (using the open source image processing library ImageMagick), and uploads them to the appropriate directory on the webserver. In addition, each of the harbour images is given a unique filename and saved to be later combined into a time-lapse movie.

At midnight each night, another script runs which uses the ffmpeg command to generate two time lapse movie files (AVI), one medium quality, and one high quality. These are then transferred to a high bandwidth server to allow fast downloading.

If anyone requires any further information, or would like a copy of the scripts used, please send me an email via the contact page.
